The Haas Family
Gus has been with us for about 11 years now. He is a Maremma, or "Maremmano-Abruzzese", which are Livestock Guardian Dogs (LGDs). While you won't see many Maremmas in the US, they are a very old breed, depicted in 15th century paintings. They are from the Maremma and Abruzzi area of Italy and were bred to guard sheep. Gus is very protective and high strung. While we can't really frolic in the park with him, he is very protective of his "flock" and has served us well.
